Economic efficiency of RES support schemes

Listopad 2014

AEEC Autumn conference

Vincent presented at the AEEC Autumn conference new work evaluating the efficiency of the different support schemes for RES (feed-in tariff, fixed or variable feed-in premium and green certificates) in the framework of the new state aid guidelines issued by the European Commission in April 2014 about energy and environment.

He shows in particular that these new state aid rules do not solve the problems of market distortions introduced by feed-in tariffs because small generators are still eligible to this type of support schemes. He also highlights that the auction-based feed-in premium will give financial guaranties to investors and industry in the long term only if the state is credible enough to do regular auctions.
